What is difference between gluten and wheat free?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, spelt, kamut, durum wheat (semolina), rye, and barley. A lot of people today suffer from allergies to wheat and/or gluten. They are not the same thing. Those who are intolerant to gluten have a condition known as coeliac disease. The key treatment for Coeliac disease is a lifelong gluten-free diet. A gluten free diet is more restrictive than a wheat free diet. Those with a wheat allergy are only allergic to a protein in wheat and not the other gluten containing grains. This is a different condition from Coeliac disease, and may not be a lifelong condition. However, it is usually treated in the same way, that is, through a gluten-free diet. To make life simple for you, our delicious products at the Honest Bakery are certified gluten free.
